Movie Review - Kho Gaye Hum Kahan

I recently watched the Netflix dramedy - "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan". I was pleasantly surprised by the powerful messaging this coming of the age movie delivered. The movie depicts an accurate picture of the lives of Gen Z whose lives revolve around phones, social media, filters, reels, likes, shares and followers. The title as it says - "Where have we lost?" captures the essense of "whats true - real life or reel life?" This is a bold take on social media toxicity and underscores the importance of meeting life without filters.

I really liked this movie and would encourage you to watch it(highly encourage the Gen Zers to watch it as well). Overall, I would rate this movie 4/5.

The movie is about 3 friends in their 20s who are going through the usual love, breakup, relationship matters but through an addiction to social media. They hear about their exes, friends through social media posts. They are so naive, that they live their digital life as it was real and develop several misunderstandings leading to utter chaos and heartbreaks.

Towards the end they realize that all this while they have been faking their lives on social media just to get more attention, garner followers and attract newer friends to make them feel better about themselves.

Directed by the debutante Arjun Varain Singh the movie features Ananya Pandey as Ahana, Adarsh Gaurav as Neil, and Siddhant Chaturvedi as Imaad in lead roles. Ahana's love life with Rohan gets complicated as she discovers through social media that he has been cheating on him. She stalks him and tries to win him back by looking more desirable and by going on fake dates. Imaad, who is the stand-up comedian, never gets tired of dating women on tinder and ends up betraying a mature photographer who would have otherwise been perfect for him. Neil, who is a fitness coach is stuck in a one-sided relationship with a social media influencer only to realize later that he has been used and cheated on.

Throughout the movie the protagonist are glued to their phones going through an emotional roller-coaster where every emotion is filtered through the lens of social media. Thats their way of escaping the reality. However, all of this is about to change as they get more vulnerable with each other and come to terms with reality.

The movie concludes on a positive note where the leads realize their current way to living is leading them nowhere. Their resolutions for 2024 are naturally to get more real - 1. Look up. Meet life without filters, without lenses. 2. Take it easy. Keep it real. 3. You don’t need too much to be happy. 4. Stop the comparisons. 5. Be grateful. 6. Find your tribe, if you have a couple of friends, you don’t need followers!

The performances by Siddhant, Ananya, and Adarsh are superb and Two soundtracks “Hone Do Jo Hota Hai” and “I Wanna See You Dance,” were great. The movie could have done better in terms of length and less dramatization of few scenes in the first half. Definitely a must watch !

Pune Trip 2008

Aug 9-10, 2008 At least my bulky centi emails and loud announcements on "The First Ever Homecoming and foreign return" worked well for the pune trip. lol... I had visitors coming from as far as Banglore and rest of them in pune within a radius of 25 km. I reached pune in not so very "Prasanna travels" state of mind where the bus driver took 2 hrs crawling between signals through a narrow road accommodating vehicles of all sizes. Unlike my other visits to places in Maharashtra where women wear jasmine gajra in hair dressed in lugda and ethinic marathi sadi and vesh-busha, pune was full of young and smart people flaunting summer wears and Diesel backpacks. No wonder they had A-Z shopping malls in this IT city of Maharashtra. I handed few chocos to the bus driver's son who was sincerely performing his duties as a part of his legacy. I left biwildered and  confused trying  तो find way तो Shivaji Bus Stand asking महाराष्ट्र  पोलिस n earby। Met shriti soon। No doubt...
